Sharing and your connection
Dawn is peer-to-peer, like Ace Stream. Viewers get the video from each other as well as from the channel, so every viewer also uploads.
What Dawn uploads
Section titled “What Dawn uploads”While a stream runs, Dawn uploads the same video you’re receiving to other viewers. It only does this while a stream runs. When you stop the stream or quit, the uploading stops.
By default, Dawn uploads up to one and a half times the channel’s bitrate for each stream. For a 3 Mbit/s channel that’s up to 4.5 Mbit/s.
What other viewers can see and send
Section titled “What other viewers can see and send”Viewers connect to each other directly, so they can see your IP address. An IP address can show roughly where you are and which internet provider you use.
Dawn checks every piece of video it receives, so other viewers can’t send you anything that didn’t come from the channel.
Set an upload limit
Section titled “Set an upload limit”If your connection slows down while Dawn runs, lower the limit.
- Open the panel.
- Find Upload limit per stream at the bottom.
- Type a speed from 0.5 to 1000 Mbit/s.
Dawn saves the limit as you type and applies it to running streams straight away. Clear the box to go back to Automatic, the default described above.
The limit applies to each stream separately, so two streams can upload twice as much.
You can’t turn sharing off, because the lowest limit is 0.5 Mbit/s.
